PDF to Word Converter

Pull the text out of a PDF into an editable Word document.

Extract editable text from a PDF

Foldr reads the selectable text on each page and writes it into a Word document, line by line, with a page break between pages. This gives you editable text you can copy, reword or reuse.

It is a text extractor, not a layout converter. Images, tables, columns, fonts and exact positioning are not kept, so expect to reformat designed documents. If you mainly need the numbers from a table, PDF to Excel may fit better.

Limitations to know about

  • There is no OCR. A scanned PDF or a photo of a page contains pictures of text, so Foldr shows 'No selectable text found. This looks like a scanned PDF.'
  • Images, original layout, columns and tables are not kept. Each line becomes a paragraph.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.

Common uses

  • Reuse text from a report or article without retyping.
  • Edit the wording of a text-based PDF in Word.
  • Collect text from several pages quickly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PDF to Word?

Add your PDF, press PDF to Word and download the .docx file.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Not with Foldr. It has no OCR, so it can only extract text that is already selectable in the PDF. Scanned pages need OCR software first.

Will the formatting stay the same?

No. The text is extracted line by line. Images, columns, tables and fonts are not preserved.

How can I tell if my PDF has selectable text?

Open it in a PDF viewer and try to select a word with your cursor. If you can, Foldr can extract it.

Can I convert on my phone?

The tool works in modern mobile browsers. Large PDFs may be slow on older phones.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is extracted in your browser and the file is not sent to a Foldr server.
