What is Foldr?

Foldr is a free set of PDF tools for everyday document jobs: combining files, splitting them, shrinking them, rotating or cropping pages, adding page numbers or a watermark, and converting between PDF, images, Word, Excel and text.

Unlike many online PDF converters, Foldr does its work inside your browser. Your documents are not uploaded to a Foldr server, which is useful for contracts, invoices, ID copies and other files you would rather keep on your own device.

Private by design

Files are opened and processed by JavaScript in your browser. They are not uploaded to a Foldr server.

Your files stay on your device

Foldr's tools run as JavaScript in your browser tab. Files you select are read into your browser's memory, processed there and handed back to you as a download. They are not sent to a Foldr server.

To be precise about what does go over the network: the page loads its PDF libraries from a public CDN and its font from Google Fonts, and the site may show ads. None of these receive your documents.

Foldr does not include OCR, so scanned PDFs cannot be turned into editable text. Tools such as PDF to Word and PDF to Excel work on PDFs with selectable text.

Frequently asked questions

What is Foldr?

Foldr is a free collection of PDF tools that run in your web browser. You can merge, split, compress, rotate, crop, watermark and number PDFs, and convert between PDF, images, Word, Excel and text.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are opened and processed by JavaScript in your browser, on your own device, and are not sent to a Foldr server. The page does load its processing libraries and fonts from public CDNs.

Is Foldr free?

Yes. You can use every available tool without an account. The site may show ads to help cover running costs.

Does Foldr work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The layout adapts to phone, tablet and desktop screens and works in current mobile browsers. Large files can be slow on older devices because the work happens on the device itself.

Can Foldr read scanned PDFs?

Foldr does not include OCR. Tools that need text, such as PDF to Word and PDF to Excel, work on PDFs with selectable text but not on scanned pages or photos.

Does Foldr work offline?

Not fully. The processing libraries load from the internet when you open a tool, so you need a connection to start. After that, your files are handled on your device.

Which tools are coming soon?

Scan to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF to PDF/A, Edit PDF, PDF forms, Unlock PDF and Protect PDF are listed as Soon because they are not available yet.
